Sumba Island Retreat

29th September to 5th October, 2025

Erin and Sarmarie warmly invite you to join us for this unique retreat experience. Together, we bring decades of experience in movement, philosophy, and deep listening to create a space of connection, renewal, and grounded exploration. We look forward to welcoming you into this shared journey.

Nestled among lush tropical gardens and just moments from the sea, this immersive retreat blends yoga, embodied education, and the restorative power of nature to deepen your sense of connection—within and around you. Over six days and nights, we’ll share daily yoga and meditation, guided self-inquiry, nourishing locally-sourced meals, and unhurried time to rest, reflect, and take in the beauty and culture of this island paradise.

Join us in Sumba

The places we dwell shape not only how we feel, but how we connect—with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us.

To support your experience, we've chosen Maringi Sumba—an eco-luxury retreat nestled in the heart of the Sumba Hospitality Foundation, where sustainability and soul meet in every detail. Surrounded by lush gardens and the vibrant textures of inland Sumba, this is not just a place to stay - it’s a place to be nourished.

Maringi offers a unique blend of comfort and purpose. It’s more than accommodation—it’s a meaningful exchange, a chance to dwell in beauty while contributing to a better future for the island and its people. Sumba itself is a land of raw beauty and quiet wonder—rugged hills, hidden waterfalls, and culture. It invites you to slow down, listen, and experience life in rhythm with the land.

Yoga and Meditation

Our retreat offers daily yoga and meditation practices designed to support your holistic experience, deepen your connection with yourself, and enrich your understanding of yoga beyond the physical.

Each morning opens with a gently structured flow, intentionally themed to complement our workshops and guide you through an integrated, embodied journey throughout the week. In the evenings, we’ll wind down with restorative and meditative sessions to release tension, support recovery, and invite clarity and calm.

Classes are open to all levels and will include guided meditation, breath awareness, and a variety of breathing techniques to balance, energise, and ground. Modifications and options will be offered throughout, with a focus on inclusion, self-awareness, and moving with ease and intention.

Nourishing Cuisine

Each day of the retreat, you’ll be treated to three wholesome meals plus complimentary beverages. Our menu is thoughtfully curated to support your journey, offering vibrant, dishes made from scratch with love and intention. Dietary requirements and allergies accommodated upon request.

Dishes are prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients directly from the permaculture garden or local market. Our meals together embrace the pace of slow living and are shared around the community table, inviting connection, conversation, and a chance to savour the experience.

Retreat Hosts

This retreat in Sumba holds special meaning for the hosts. It offers the rare chance to be immersed in a place that is raw and real, where life can be witnessed in its unfiltered beauty. Places like this naturally call us into a slower pace, expose us to new ways of being, and call us into our healing and growth. Sarmarie was recently humbly invited into this environment and now shares it with others in the same spirit: grounded, open-hearted, and present to what may unfold.

Erin - Facilitator, Yoga Teacher

Erin’s enthusiasm for life is ignited when surrounded by nature, connecting with inspiring people, and growing through exploration. As a Facilitator and Yoga Teacher, she guides a mind body approach that serves as a container for presence, insight, and embodied wholeness. One of her greatest joys is to work holistically with people to empower them to honour their humanness and discover an authentic life path.

Erin draws on over two decades of experience facilitating positive change for participants in their wellbeing and personal fulfilment. Her background and education bring together yoga, exercise and health science (BSc), psychology (MSc Coaching Psychology), Ayurveda, and mindfulness training.

She currently lives in Byron Bay and regularly facilitates Yoga Teacher Trainings, wellness retreats, and leadership courses.

Sarmarie - Facilitator, Yoga Teacher

With over 20 years of experience in yoga, movement, breath, and philosophy, Sarmarie holds space with quiet strength and deep care. Her teaching is rooted in curiosity and creativity, guided by presence and a deep respect for what is real and unfolding moment to moment.

Her approach is both refined and open, balancing experience with spontaneity. She teaches with a grounded sense of intuition, shaped by years of inquiry and a willingness to explore the unknown with honesty and warmth.

Drawing from a diverse background in asana, philosophy, pranayama, meditation, visual arts, and Steiner education, Sarmarie’s work reflects a reverence for the body’s innate intelligence and the quiet wisdom found in nature and everyday life.
